The University of Granada and the Euro Arab Foundation for Higher Studies, in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) are currently opening the application process for the Second edition of its Master program in Tourism Destination Management.

PROGRAM

The MTDM is a graduate programme tailored to suit the needs of high tourism officials from countries of the Arab region seeking to improve and enhance their academic background in their fields of work without giving up their professional activities or commitments as it combines on-site seminars and online training resources that will help the master candidates make the most of the programme through all the possibilities technology and online training have to offer.

The program challenges students to use their previously acquired professional experience and academic background to take it forward by combining it with the skills gained throughout the program in order to promote a sustainable way of managing tourism that will contribute to strengthen the sector in particular while helping national economic development in general.

Tourism is considered as one of the most viable and sustainable development options for many regions around the world, and the Middle East is no exception. Faced by several of the challenges sited by the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals–environmental sustainability, poverty, gender equality and global partnerships—sustainable tourism development is crucial as it has the economic and social power to face these issues. The focus of this program is to provide knowledge and training that will help harness potential for sustainable development, aid in the UNWTO’s fight against various global challenges. Through education, it is possible to create synergy among organizations across all regions and countries with mutually beneficial policies and sustainable business plans.

Learning objectives

• Internalize the industry’s existing best practices while gaining insight into today’s most innovative initiatives that generate employment and sustainable growth.

• Analyze the managerial tools and aptitudes related to the different types of business and government entities within the tourism industry.

• Develop a well-rounded base of general management skills for leading both business and government organizations.

• Become an adaptable and dynamic leader for change.

• Gain practical knowledge directly from internationally experienced and successful professionals.

MASTER PROGRAM. The master is structured in 5 units that combine online and on-site teaching methods (as presented below), focused on different areas of tourism and management, the fifth and last unit consisting of the final project. This last unit is a capstone as it will give the master candidates the chance to take into practice the knowledge and skills gained during their training.

The curriculum will be offered online through a virtual platform through which students will be guided and assisted by a tutor in charge of managing the contents of the modules as well as solving any doubts students may have. In addition to the online training which will take place during the whole duration of the MTDM, two on-site intensive seminars will be offered in Granada; the first one taking place in January of 2014 which will include the opening ceremony as well as the academic contents and the second seminar which will take place during the third week of May of 2014. Attendance to both seminars is compulsory in order to be able to graduate.

The oral defense of the final project, which will take place at the UNWTO HQ in Madrid, is optional. Added to the oral defense, guided tours of the UNWTO as well as closing ceremony shall be organized for the students.

We are accounting from professor from different universities as such Granada University, University of La Laguna (Tenerife -Spain), University of Alicante, University of La Coruña, George Washington University, International School of Hotel Management - Les Roches Switzerland, Nottingham University Business School. As well it is important to sing it the special collaboration of United Nations World Tourism Organisation - UNWTO -, which although is supporting the program with infrastructure and professionals related on the issues of tourism.

Unit 5: Final Project

The final project serves as a capstone in which the students must apply all knowledge and understanding of the tourism industry and management acquired in the master. Each student chooses a topic of special interest that is related to his or her current work or career goals. This includes but is not limited to a publicly traded company, government organization or a recently developed project. After selection an institution, the students realize a complete financial, strategic and organizational analysis along with a vision of the future and a recommended course of action.

All students are assigned a mentor who provides guidance on structure and content. To complete the unit, the analysis must be defended publicly before a panel of three experts, professors and/or business professionals in the tourism industry.

TUITION

Tuition: 4.499,42€ € (travel & accommodation for on-site seminars are not included).

After receiving confirmation of your acceptance to the master program, students shall have to proceed to paying the tuition fees. You can choose to pay your tuition in a single payment or by installments (the first one no later than 10 days after receiving the acceptance letter and the second one between the 1st and 15th of April of 2014) The duration of the programme14 months of master program to begin 13rd January 2014.

Student intake: 30

Selection requirements and necessary documents to send with the application form: University Degree or proven experience in positions of civil service. Curriculum vitae (assessed by the Academic Committee). Passport / ID. English proficiency certificates (TOEFL, CPE..). Cover letter (600 words in English).

SCHOLARSHIPS 15% of the total number of enrolments shall be used to finance scholarships. In order to apply for a scholarship, you have to be enrolled in the program and have paid the first installment of the tuition fees. Scholarships will be granted after reviewing the economic situations and academic performance and potential of the candidate.

EUROARAB FOUNDATION FOR HIGHER STUDIES

The Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies (www.fundea.org) has its origin in the agreement established by the European Parliament in 1984 for the creation of the Euro-Arab University. In October of 1995 the Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies was set up as a unique institution in the international arena due to its composition and its mission: to create a space for dialogue and cooperation between the countries of the European Union and those of the League of Arab League.
